SUCCESS BY 6 (SB6) of Marion County

SB6 is a parent education initiative made possible through a unique partnership between the United Way of Marion County and the Early Learning Coalition of Marion County.

The mission of Success by 6 of Marion County is that all children in our community are safe, healthy, eager to learn and ready to succeed by the time they enter school.

SB6 coordinates with community agencies, local businesses and faith-based organizations to provide services for families in Marion County.

Success By 6 programs include:

Imagination Library - Success By 6, through funding received from Target, is able to be a local affiliate for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a program intended to increase early literacy through exposure to monthly free books delivered to the home of children from birth to age 6.  Approximately 275 children are enrolled each month in Marion County.

Active Parenting Seminars are held throughout the year.  These are free seminars for parents of young children to increase their knowledge so they will be more skilled to enhance their child's development.  We promote the philosophy that the parent IS the child's first and best teacher.  Approximately 25 families attend each Active Parenting class.

Caring through Cribs program - This program, in partnership with Kids Central, Inc., Kiwanis of Ocala, United Way of Marion County, and various community donations, provides new and expectant parents information and resources, free of charge (including a new crib if needed) to reduce infant injury and death due to unsafe sleep practices and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.  This is a vital, necessary program in our community.  SB6 partners with several agencies in the community with the common goal of keeping our babies alive and well!                           Approximately 300 cribs per year are distributed through this program.

Pajamas and Books for Bedtime Annual Winter Event - For several years, SB6 has partnered with the community to collect and distribute pajamas and books to children in need.  The children and families are always very appreciative of the pajamas and books that are donated prior to the holiday season!  Last year, 1,910 pairs of pajamas and 1,334 books were collected from our generous donors!  Special thanks to the winners of the 2011 PJ and Books challenge:

  • Marion County Public Library employees and patrons
